Meaningful Impact

The DARI Pact for Human Agency

A global commitment to ensure that as artificial intelligence grows in capability, humanity grows in responsibility, wisdom, and unity.

Humanity is entering a new epoch. Advances in artificial intelligence are rapidly creating systems capable of performing intellectual tasks once reserved for humans. Many experts anticipate that machines may eventually surpass human capabilities across most domains. Technology itself does not determine the future - the future will be determined by the principles and choices that guide its development and use.

The DARI Pact for Human Agency establishes a shared commitment to ensure that the rise of advanced artificial intelligence strengthens human dignity, agency, and long-term flourishing. It is designed to be endorsed by individuals, creators, companies, and institutions alike - a single document that speaks to every level of responsibility.

Six Principles for the AI Age

The Pact is structured around six foundational principles, each addressing a critical dimension of the human-AI relationship:

I. Human Sovereignty

AI must remain a tool in service of humanity. Human beings retain ultimate authority over decisions that affect human life, society, and the future of civilization. No technological system should erode the fundamental capacity of humans to exercise judgment, responsibility, and moral choice.

II. Human Dignity

The development and use of AI must respect the intrinsic value of human life. Technological systems must not be used to degrade, manipulate, or dehumanize individuals or communities. AI should expand human flourishing, creativity, knowledge, and opportunity.

III. Truth and Authenticity

In a world where digital content can be generated and altered at scale, transparency and authenticity become essential. The use of AI in the creation of content, systems, or decisions should be disclosed where relevant to trust and accountability. Deception through synthetic media, impersonation, or manipulation undermines the social foundations upon which technological progress depends.

IV. Human Accountability

Responsibility for AI systems ultimately remains human. Individuals and organizations that design, deploy, or operate such systems must retain oversight and the capacity to intervene when systems produce harmful or unintended outcomes. Delegation of tasks to machines does not imply delegation of responsibility.

V. Collective Preparedness

Preparing humanity for coexistence with advanced AI requires education, public dialogue, and institutional readiness. Societies should promote technological literacy, ethical reflection, and informed civic participation regarding emerging technologies.

VI. Long-Term Stewardship

The technologies developed today may shape civilization for generations. Developers, institutions, and societies bear responsibility not only for immediate outcomes, but also for the long-term consequences of technological systems. The interests of future generations must be considered in the development and governance of artificial intelligence.

A Commitment for Everyone

The DARI Pact elevates the conversation from individual ethics to civilizational responsibility. It is not a set of rules, but a shared framework - designed to guide personal conduct, professional activities, and institutional decisions as AI grows in capability and reach.

Modeled on the tone and structure of international treaties, the Pact is intended to carry weight in policy circles, corporate governance, and public discourse. Its strength comes from the breadth and seriousness of its signatories.

Humanity must define the role of artificial intelligence before artificial intelligence begins to define the role of humanity.
