Visions of AI

A comprehensive exploration of how humanity has imagined artificial intelligence across film, literature, music, and the arts.

The Project

“Visions of AI” is a large-format publication and documentary project that traces humanity's evolving relationship with the idea of artificial intelligence through the lens of popular culture. From the earliest literary imaginings of artificial beings to today's most sophisticated cinematic visions, this project maps the cultural landscape of AI across more than a century of creative expression.

Conceived in the tradition of prestigious art book publishers like TASCHEN, the publication combines stunning visual material with rigorous cultural analysis, original essays by leading thinkers, and exclusive interviews with the creators who have shaped our collective imagination of AI.

The project examines how fiction has anticipated, influenced, and sometimes distorted our understanding of real AI development - and what these cultural artifacts reveal about our deepest hopes, fears, and assumptions about the nature of intelligence, consciousness, and what it means to be human.

Documentary Companion

Alongside the publication, DARI is producing a multi-part documentary series that brings these cultural visions to life through original interviews with filmmakers, authors, musicians, and AI researchers. The documentary explores the dialogue between fiction and reality - how creative works have shaped public understanding of AI, and how real technological developments have in turn inspired new waves of artistic expression.
